    The Vermont Mountaineers were shut out by the Ocean State Waves Friday evening at Montpelier Rec Field. Daniel Keating got the Waves offense going with a three-run homer in the fourth, and Ocean State cruised to an 8-0 win. With the loss, Vermont falls to 15-20 on the season.

    The Middlebury high school softball team defeated Rice on Saturday morning, 5-0.  The Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning and added two more in the later innings. Middlebury pitcher, Payton Buxton, picked up her 500th career strikeout in the bottom of the first inning.

    The Middlebury women's lacrosse team held off a late charge by Amherst for an 8-7 win in a NESCAC Quarterfinal game played on Kohn Field.  Middlebury men's goalie, Charles Midgley made a career-high 24 saves, propelling the Panthers to an 11-10 upset of 11th-ranked Amherst in the NESCAC Quarterfinals Saturday in Massachusetts.

    UVM Junior guard, Trae Bell-Haynes, has filed as an early entry candidate for the 2017 NBA draft.  Bell-Haynes has until May 24th to withdraw his name and retain his NCAA eligibility  137 collegiate players filed as early entry candidates.  They were required to submit a letter to the NBA before Sunday.  The list was released today on NBA.com.  Bell Haynes is the reigning America East player of the year.
