White River Junction, Vermont - March 19, 2009
A man was arrested for his sixth DUI after driving onto the ice on the Connecticut River.
Fifty-seven-year-old Wayne Hathaway, of Springfield, pleaded innocent to a felony count of drunk driving and driving without a license. Police say Hathaway's car was reported sinking in the river Tuesday afternoon. Witnesses say they saw the car head onto the ice from the boat landing.
Hathaway and a passenger were able to get out of the car and walk to safety. But police say they found multiple liquor bottles in his car, and a judge said Hathaway was too dangerous to the public to be allowed out of jail, and ordered him held without bail.
