GOP chairman: NH gay marriage vote imposes 'San Francisco agenda'

Associated Press - March 27, 2009 5:15 AM ET

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - The chairman of the state Republican Party says yesterday's House vote to allow gay marriage was an attempt by liberal Democrats to impose what he calls their San Francisco agenda on the state of New Hampshire.

John H. Sununu says he hopes Gov. John Lynch will take a stand and say he'll veto the bill, which would make New Hampshire the third state legalizing gay marriage. Lynch opposes gay marriage but has not said specifically that he would veto it. The bill now goes to the Senate.

Mo Baxley, executive director of New Hampshire Freedom to Marry Coalition, said lawmakers showed the world that New Hampshire does not discriminate and all families count.
