Lebanon, New Hampshire - April 6, 2009
Due to heavy rain and mountain snow melt, the National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for parts of our region.
In New Hampshire, that affects Grafton, Coos, and Sullivan Counties.
In Lebanon, rivers are already running high and more rain is expected. Emergency officials say that the rivers can be extremely dangerous and should be avoided. Emergency personnel also say that if water does end up spilling on to roads, you should find an alternate route, rather than trying to pass through the water.
"We don't end up with a lot of areas where we have real fast moving water over a roadway, but people need to be aware that even what appears to be shallow water over a roadway could be enough to move a vehicle, certainly enough to sweep them away and it also could be hiding maybe other things like a washout of the road," Lebanon Fire Chief Chris Christopoulos warned.
The chief also says you should never attempt to kayak swollen rivers unless you are a professional and wearing proper safety equipment.
