Weathersfield, Vermont - April 17, 2009
Dry weather and high winds are causing officials in Vermont and New Hampshire to issue fire warnings.
A brush fire started off the Upper Farm Road in Weathersfield a little after noon Friday. Crews from a handful of neighboring departments responded and were able to control the fire. No damage was reported. However, fire officials on scene say that winds fueled the blaze. Fire officials also say that in these conditions, fires can start very quickly.
Another fire was reported Thursday in Strafford that destroyed two mobile homes.
"Right now it looks like it was the backfire from a four wheeler. That is what the individual said the cause was. It was a spark. Just a spark from the four wheeler. It burned two mobile homes in a mobile park, a number of outback structures. (If not for) the quickness of the fire department, they could have lost the whole trailer park last night," said Bert von Dohrmann of the N.H. Forest Protection Bureau.
Fire officials say that anyone found to be responsible for starting a fire could land themselves in jail for up to a year and receive a hefty fine.
