CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - The Chinook is one paw closer to becoming New Hampshire's official State Dog.
The House Environment and Agriculture voted unanimously Tuesday to recommend the full House pass a bill naming the breed the state dog.
The Chinook - a cross between a husky and a farm dog - originated in New Hampshire in 1917 and is known as a smart, fast sled dog. There are almost 800 registered Chinooks today, and 450 of them live in New England.
A group of seventh graders from Bedford have been lobbying for the bill.
