Police are looking for an armed man with a history violent behavior in Addison County. The focus is on the town of Waltham, specifically the 75-acre property of the Grant family on Maple Street. Police believe 23-year old George Grant has a 22-calibre rifle and ammo stolen from his father Thursday. His family says he does not intend to harm anyone, but police caution residents not to approach him.
"At this point he was on his own property and has not really committed any law violation. However, there is the concern for the public should he encounter somebody either if he wanders off the property or if somebody wanders onto their property," says Lt. Bruce Melendy of the Vermont State Police.
Police say a judge authorized Grant's release without medications from the Vermont State Hospital last fall, over the objections of the Vermont Attorney General. Police have already obtained a warrant to return Grant to the mental health facility when he is found.
