The Simpsons Put Their Stamp on Springfield

Springfield, Vermont - May 7, 2009

Springfield, Vt., has become the official home of the Simpsons cartoon family.

The town received acclaim after winning a national video contest. Thursday, the fallout from the Simpsons' frenzy continued. Simpsons lovers and stamp collectors gathered at the Springfield post office to receive a cartoon cancellation stamp. The Homer bowling stamp will be available for a limited time, but area business people say that the effects are long term.

"We have people from all over the world still coming to see some of the memorabilia from the big event, and obviously like I said, we are very privileged to have this opportunity to have this special cancellation stamp because, again it wasn't initially planned. Kind of how everything has been with the Simpsons phenomenon here in Springfield," said Patty Chaffee, of the Springfield Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber helped celebrate the stamp signing event by serving ice cream to Simpsons fans. It's been almost two years since the Simpsons movie premiered in Springfield.
