Burlington, Vermont - May 13, 2009
The principal of one of Burlington's soon-to-be magnet schools is quitting.
Paula Bowen has been an administrator at Lawrence Barnes Elementary school for the last seven years.
She says her departure has nothing to do with the school or its new magnet status.
Bowen has two children and says she's simply looking for a job with a more flexible schedule.
"I'm looking for just something a little different. I love it here. I've been at Barnes seven years and it's been a fabulous seven years. I think I'll miss the sense of community here. It's just lovely," Bowen said.
In the short term, Bowen plans to do some curriculum development work at other schools in the state.
The district plans to announce her successor in the next couple of weeks.
