NASHUA, N.H. (AP) - City officials in Nashua, N.H., want to clear out a homeless encampment at a park, hoping to discourage gatherings by cutting a trail through it.
The Telegraph reports the plan worries homeless advocates, however, and city officials acknowledge that the action will only force the homeless to bed down elsewhere.
While city officials and homeless advocates agree that Mine Falls Park generally is a safe place, concern over the campsite flared after the recent attack on a homeless man there, and complaints that people with homes of their own were gathering there to drink.
The Maple Island encampment is separated from the rest of the park by a chain link fence, but a large hole cut through the fence allows people to come and go via a short path.
