YAPHANK, N.Y. (AP) - Two men landed behind bars after they were caught trying to steal 225 feet of copper wire from property next to a Long Island police station.
Suffolk County detectives were heading into the police headquarters in Yaphank (YAP'-ank) on Thursday when they saw the men loading the utility wire into the trunk of a vehicle.
Says Det. Sgt. Robert Doyle: "They were pretty much caught red-handed."
The suspects are brothers and unemployed cooks. They're now charged with fourth-degree grand larceny.
They were jailed while awaiting their Friday court appearance.
