Concord, New Hampshire - June 18, 2009
Don't bet on a bet on a gambling casino in New Hampshire's North Country any time soon; budget negotiators rejected a move to expand the state's gambling laws.
Plans emerged this spring to build a $75 million casino complex in Berlin, N.H., that would include slot machines, gaming tables, a restaurant and conference center.
However, the budget committee agreed to raise the cigarette tax by $0.45. If the Legislature approves it would still be the lowest tobacco tax in New England.
