Facing investigation, police trainer resigns

Associated Press - June 18, 2009 10:15 AM ET

PITTSFORD, Vt. (AP) - Facing an investigation for a personnel matter, the training and curriculum development coordinator at Vermont Police Academy has resigned.

Kevin A. Almquist has been on administrative leave since May 29.

R.J. Elrick, executive director of the Criminal Justice Training Council, which oversees the academy, says Almquist handed in his resignation this week, effective Friday. Elrick would not say why Almquist is being investigated, citing confidentiality rules, according to the Burlington Free Press.

South Burlington Police Capt. Todd Shepard, who is chairman of the training council, says Almquist resigned because he made a "mistake." He would not say what the mistake was. Almquist couldn't be reached for comment; he didn't immediately respond to a telephone message left Thursday.
