Plainfield, Vermont - June 23, 2009
A Montpelier teenager is dead following an early-morning car crash.
Police say 17-year-old Caidin McKeever collided head-on into a tree on Route 2 in Plainfield. He died at the scene. Two of his passengers were severely injured with cuts to the face and chest fractures. They were taken to Central Vermont Hospital and Dartmouth-Hitchcock for treatment. Two other passengers suffered just minor injuries.
"My sympathy goes out to all the parents. I -- God -- I hope it never turns out to my kid in a situation like this," said Dru-Ellen Riggs, who called 911.
No one in the car was wearing a seat belt. Police suspect alcohol and speed were involved in the crash.
