The Vermont National Guard will get some financial support through one of the flashiest motorcycles you've probably ever seen.
The Jay Peak American Legion Post in North Troy and Mike's Electric of Jay bought a star-spangled chopper from the custom builders of Orange County Choppers. They're raffling it off to raise money for the Guard's family readiness program. Its services are expected to be needed later this year and in 2010 with a possible deployment to Afghanistan of nearly 2,000 guardsmen and women.
The chopper is valued at $35,000. A raffle ticket costs $100.
"In these times, $100 is pretty hard for some people to come by. Hopefully in these last few days, since we're drawing it on the Fourth of July, it will be a success," said Richard Berthiaume of Jay Peak American Legion Post #28.
