Flashy Bike to Rev Up Support for Guard Families

North Troy, Vermont - June 24, 2009

The Vermont National Guard will get some financial support through one of the flashiest motorcycles you've probably ever seen.

The Jay Peak American Legion Post in North Troy and Mike's Electric of Jay bought a star-spangled chopper from the custom builders of Orange County Choppers. They're raffling it off to raise money for the Guard's family readiness program. Its services are expected to be needed later this year and in 2010 with a possible deployment to Afghanistan of nearly 2,000 guardsmen and women.

The chopper is valued at $35,000. A raffle ticket costs $100.

"In these times, $100 is pretty hard for some people to come by. Hopefully in these last few days, since we're drawing it on the Fourth of July, it will be a success," said Richard Berthiaume of Jay Peak American Legion Post #28.

You can see the custom chopper in person:

  • At the causeway in Newport Friday, June 26th from 12 to 6 p.m.
  • At the Wal-Mart in Williston Monday, June 29th from 11 to 4 p.m.
  • At the Hooters in South Burlington Wednesday, July 1st from 3 to 9 p.m.

To get a raffle ticket by mail, send a check to:

American Legion / Jay Peak Post #28
North Troy, VT 05859

For more information you can call the Legion in North Troy at (802) 988-2861 after 4 p.m.

The winning ticket will be drawn mid-afternoon on Saturday, July 4th after the Independence Day parade in North Troy.
