Bennington College is tightening its belt. A salary freeze is in effect and more than a $1 million has been cut from the operating budget.
The college has also announced it plans to close the Early Childhood Center at the end of the summer.
Bennington College's endowment of about $10 million has reportedly shrunk by more than 20 percent as a result of the weak economy.
The Boston Globe is reporting that Harvard University told staff on Tuesday that 275 positions would be cut because of its shrinking endowment.
