AG Reports Shed Light on Northfield Police Chief

Barre, Vermont - July 7, 2009

Reports from the Vermont Attorney General's Office reveal new details about Northfield Police Chief Jeffrey Shaw.

Last month, Shaw was temporarily de-certified by the state for falsifying training records, including his own. The chief says it was an innocent mistake.

Now the reports, obtained by The Barre-Montpelier Times Argus, show Northfield's town manager was told in 2005 about concerns that Shaw wasn't properly training department employees. The reports also contain testimony from former officers that Shaw used staff meetings for training, but they weren't always used for that purpose.

Northfield's selectboard will hold a closed door hearing at some point to determine what action the town should take against Shaw.
