Brandon, Vermont - July 13, 2009

Police have identified the man who was killed in a head-on collision Sunday night on Route 7 in Brandon.

Police say Rodney Davis, 61, of Sunderland, was headed south when he crossed the center line and hit a pickup truck head-on. Davis died at the scene along with one his 15-year-old foster daughters. Police would not identify her because she is a foster child.

Davis' wife Darryl remains in critical condition. Four other foster children who were in the car, including the twin of the girl who died, were all hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the truck, David Rondeau, 28, of Readsboro, was also injured.

Multiple emergency agencies, including two medical helicopters, responded to the crash at around 6:30 Sunday evening.

Police say the car was equipped with the proper number of seats and the family was buckled up.

Police hope an autopsy will shed some light on what caused Rodney Davis to cross the center line.

The Davis family was returning from a vacation in Montreal.
