NEWPORT CITY, Vt. (AP) - Two Vermont men have been sentenced to federal prison for their roles smuggling drugs from Canada.
Randell Blake, 44, and Burton Jacobs, 42, both of Derby, were sentenced Monday. Blake was sentenced to seven years and three months and Jacobs was sentenced to four years and three months.
Two other Derby men received lesser sentences for their roles.
Court records show between 2001 and 2006, Jacobs and Blake carried between 7,000 and 20,000 pounds of marijuana into the U.S. from Canada, The Caledonian-Record reported. Prosecutors said the two walked across the border, met the Canadians and smuggled in the drugs. They said drivers hired by Jacobs drove the drugs to cities in the Northeast for distribution.
