A former school teacher from northern New York is going to federal prison for failing to register as a sex offender.

Patrick Romeo, 68, of Fort Covington, was arrested last year on charges he sexually abused a seven-year-old boy at a beach in Massena. The charge was later dismissed due to lack of evidence.

Romeo is a convicted sex offender in the state of California. But he failed to report to New York authorities when he moved to the area. He will spend the next five and a half years in prison.
