NORTHFIELD, Vt. (AP) - Norwich University has been awarded $7.7 million for two Homeland Security contracts to help fight cyber attacks like the ones that hit some government agencies July 4.
U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy, a member of the Senate's Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, visited Norwich on Friday to announce the funding.
The military college's applied research institute will develop training and software in computer network defense for police and fire departments around the country.
Nearly $15 million will go toward a research consortium of institutions, which Norwich will lead, to develop online exercises for financial institutions to prepare to deflect attacks.
