RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) - A Rutland, Vt., man's mysterious gunshot injury to his leg has led authorities to file federal firearms charges against him.
Alexander Barkey, 21, was convicted of burglary in September 2007 and sentenced to probation. He was restricted from possessing firearms. The Rutland Herald reports last month he became the subject of police and state Probation and Parole officials' interest after he was shot in the leg under circumstances that police are still working to unravel.
Investigators say Barkey told a number of stories about how he was shot on June 6. Officers said they were skeptical of every account and jailed Barkey for violating his furlough. He remains jailed in Newport.
Federal prosecutors recently filed an indictment against Barkey for allegedly possessing a pair of revolvers in December 2007.
