A longtime lawmaker is leaving his Vt. House seat to join the Douglas Administration.
Cambridge Rep. Rich Westman will become the state's tax commissioner. The Republican lawmaker currently chairs the House Transportation Committee and has served as the chair of the House Appropriation Committee.
Westman-- a 27 year veteran of the House-- replaces Tom Pelham who is now the Deputy Administration Secretary.
Gov. Jim Douglas appointed a new Motor Vehicle Commissioner today as well. Rob Ide, the head of the rail division in the Agency of Transportation will replace Bonnie Rutledge who retired recently. Ide is a former state senator from Caledonia County and lives in Peacham.
