CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - The family of a 10-year-old Massachusetts boy who was found dead nearly six years ago in the White Mountains says it won't quit trying to get New Hampshire to prosecute the death as murder.
Terrance O'Connell, an investigator and attorney for the family of Patric McCarthy, said Friday the family will press ahead despite an announcement Thursday by state and federal authorities that the case is closed.
Acting Attorney General Orville "Bud" Fitch said there's not sufficient evidence to suggest foul play in Patric's death. He said barring new, credible evidence, the case would remain closed.
An autopsy concluded Patric died of hypothermia. His family has long doubted that and has tried to reopen the case in the past without success.
