Poaching Investigation Turns Into Pot Bust

Waterbury, Vermont - July 28, 2009

What started as a deer poaching investigation in Rochester turned into a big pot bust. On Sunday, Vermont State Game Wardens searched 23-year-old Andrew Stringer's home as part of their investigation into an illegal deer poaching incident last November. While at the house, the wardens found a marijuana growing operation in the bedroom; they seized 48 pot plants as well as growing equipment.

Both Stringer and his girlfriend, 19-year-old Desiree Boardman, were arrested and charged with felony marijuana cultivation, which carries a fine of up to $500,000 and a 15-year jail sentence. Stringer also faces charges for the deer poaching.
