N.Y. Woman Sentenced for Fatal Shaftsbury Crash

Bennington, Vermont - July 28, 2009

A New York woman will spend 30 days in prison and up to two years on probation for a fatal crash in Shaftsbury.

Twenty-seven-year-old Mary Fasciana was originally charged with felony negligent operation with death resulting for the September crash that killed 64-year-old Arthur Johnson of Groton. Police say Fasciana was trying to pass a car on Route 7 when she crossed the center line and hit Johnson's car head-on. Yesterday, she pleaded no contest to a reduced misdemeanor charge. She'll begin serving her sentence today. Fasciana will also not be allowed to drive in Vermont for one year.
