BARRE, VT - The Colchester Cannons are the American Legion Champions of Vermont, as they beat the O.E.C. Kings 6-3 Tuesday night at Barre's Recreational Field.
The Kings beat Bellows Falls 12-6 earlier in the day to advance to the final, and after a 30 minute break they were back in action for the championship.
In the final, Matt Goulet started on the mound for the Cannons as he combined with pitcher Travis Dulude to hold O.E.C. to just three runs. Offensively, the Cannons got things rolling in the first when Bryan Geary and Justin Bara both came up with RBI hits, putting the Cannons up 2-0 after the first. They would add to the lead with a three run third, powered by a two-run single by Kyle McRae.
With the win, Colchester advances to the Northeast Regional tournament in Manchester, N.H. The Cannons will open the tourney on August 6th at 9:30 a.m. against the Rhode Island State Champion.
