Irasburg, Vermont - July 31, 2009
Peter the moose may be shipped out of state.
The moose sparked controversy because the domesticated moose is living in Irasburg on an elk farm. The state says Peter shouldn't be there because it's illegal to keep wild animals. And there are concerns that keeping wild animals could introduce illnesses to Vermont wildlife like chronic wasting disease.
Now a zoo in New Jersey has offered to take Peter in and the state of Vermont is looking into it.
"We will consider and pursue any other feasible alternative as long as it's safe and we can comply with our and other laws in other states," Vt. Fish & Wildlife Commissioner Wayne Laroche said.
You can hear more from Commissioner Laroche this weekend on You Can Quote Me. That's Sunday at 11 a.m. on Channel 3.
