FORT EDWARD, N.Y. (AP) - The 15-day, 200-mile ninth annual Great Hudson River Paddle launches on Monday when 37 kayakers from around the country set out from Fort Edward to Manhattan.
Organizers include the Hudson River Valley Greenway and Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area. Paddlers will camp along the way in state and local parks, and visit cultural sites and communities. Along with the group that will travel the entire route, other paddlers will join in for day trips along the way.
Since 1994, the Hudson River Greenway has designated 90 public access sites along the river as part of the Greenway Water Trail.
This year's event also commemorates the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson and Samuel de Champlain's voyages along the river and lake that bear their names.
