Barre Mayor Wants to Build City Center

Barre, Vermont - August 18, 2009

Barre's mayor has big plans for a new city center. Mayor Thom Lauzon tells Channel 3 he wants to build a 60,000 square foot City Center on Main Street across from Merchants Row.

"That city center would house a market similar to City Market in Burlington and a fitness facility, a community fitness facility on the third floor. What I think that will do for us is drive visitors to our downtown. It's just so critical we generate as much foot traffic as we can in our downtown," says Mayor Lauzon.

The mayor has not yet brought that idea before the city council.
