
Mendon, Vermont - August 19, 2009
Two people were killed in a car crash in Mendon Wednesday afternoon. It happened on Route 4 around 3:30 p.m.
Police say Frank Lepore, 58, of Granville, lost control of his Ford pickup truck, crossed the center line, and slammed into the side of a Volkswagen Passat. Both people in the Passat were killed. They were identified as Irving Herris, 86, and his wife Virginia Scott Herris, 78, of Palm Beach, Fla. Police say the couple was wearing seatbelts.
Lepore suffered serious injuries. He was taken to the hospital in Rutland and later transferred to Fletcher Allen in Burlington. Police say Lepore was also wearing a seatbelt.
The wreck happened during a severe thunderstorm and police believe the rain may have been a factor. They are still investigation and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call them at 802-773-9101.
