ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - A former western New York postmaster has admitted she stole several thousand dollars from the post office.
Kathleen Steurrys was the postmaster in Pultneyville in Wayne County from September 2003 until fall of 2008, when she was suspended while financial discrepancies were investigated. As postmaster, the 44-year-old Marion woman was responsible for all the cash, stamps, money orders and other accountable items at the post office.
Steurrys pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court to a charge of theft of government property, admitting she stole several thousand dollars in her time as postmaster. She faces up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000 or both.
