Teen Sentenced in Attack on Counselor

Bennington, Vermont - September 4, 2009

A former student at the Bennington School will spend three years in prison for a brutal attack on a counselor.

Prosecutors say Jason Cromie, 17, beat Wanita Baker, 61, in the head several times with a dumbbell and a chair last year. Police say Cromie was trying to steal Baker's car.

Cromie was originally charged with attempted murder but prosecutors agreed to let him plead guilty to aggravated assault so he would qualify for mental health programs sooner.
