ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Stony Brook University are getting $9.2 million each over the next 10 years for their Centers for Advanced Technology.
Gov. David Paterson announced Friday that the funding comes from the New York State Foundation for Science, Technology and Innovation.
The Centers for Advanced Technology are part of a statewide effort to encourage greater technological and economic collaboration between New York's innovation industries and research universities.
Initially five centers received Centers for Advanced Technology designations when the program was launched in 1983. Since then, the program has been expanded to include 15 different centers throughout the state.
