NEW YORK (AP) - A federal judge has refused to grant bail to an Indian smoke shop proprietor convicted of supplying untaxed cigarettes to the black market.
U.S. District Judge Denis Hurley says in a new ruling that Long Island cigarette dealer Rodney Morrison is too dangerous to let out of prison.
Prosecutors had initially charged Morrison with an arson, a robbery and the killing of a business rival, but he was acquitted on each of those counts.
But Hurley says he still thinks Morrison was responsible for those crimes.
Morrison's lawyer didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
Morrison's shop on Long Island's Poospatuck Reservation is among several under legal assault for selling large loads of tax-free cigarettes.
