Fed Boost for High-Tech Training

Grand Isle, Vermont - September 15, 2009

A new federal grant will help a computer company expand high-tech training classes in Grand Isle County.

CyberCottage Computer Training got a $30,000 USDA Rural Development Grant to create a mobile classroom.

The Chamber of Commerce says the need is great for continuing education, and it comes at a time Comcast is expanding high-speed internet access to the Champlain Islands.

"We have a lot of out-of-work folks right now who are looking for alternative ways to make money," said Darcy Coates of CyberCottage. "They're re-training for new jobs or considering entrepreneurship, starting their own business at home. With the internet access, and training available, this becomes a reality for many people."

CyberCottage charges for its computer classes, but adult education grants are available through the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation.

The company is holding an open house Wednesday afternoon to show off its new mobile lab. That's from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Island Industrial Park in Grand Isle.
