Lebanon, N.H. based ethanol company Mascoma Corporation is getting a big boost from oil giant Chevron.
Mascoma uses woodchips to make ethanol. Under the new agreement with Chevron, Mascoma will get feedstock to make renewable fuel, then a division of Chevron will get the byproduct.
That byproduct, called "lignin," is being studied as an alternative fuel. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed but word is that it's a substantial amount for a smaller business.
