WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. (AP) - If you want to learn more about mushrooms - eating them, studying them, or learning about their role in the environment, a special program in Waterville Valley, N.H., is coming up.

The Margret and H.A. Rey Center is presenting the program on Saturday, Oct. 3, complete with an outdoors search for mushrooms.

It will be led by Dr. Rick Van de Poll, chairman of the New Hampshire Joint Board of Natural Scientists.

According to a field guide on mushrooms in Northeastern North America, mushroom species are quite diverse in the region. What's common in the White Mountains are rare or unknown in other areas.
