NORWICH, Vt. (AP) - It's Banned Books Week, and a group of authors in Vermont are marking it by reading live passages from often-banned books or those written by authors who've faced censorship.

Thirteen writers - including David Macaulay, Ron Powers and Tom Bodett - gathered Wednesday night in Norwich to read from works by George Orwell, John Steinbeck, Maya Angelou and others in an event titled "An Evening Without ... Giving Voice to the Silenced."

Sponsored by the Vermont chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, the readings drew about 130 people to the Norwich Congregational Church.
