Vt. Soldier Killed in Texas Crash

Fort Hood, Texas - October 2, 2009

A motorcycle crash in Texas claimed the life of a decorated Vermont soldier.

Twenty-five-year-old U.S. Army Capt. Luke Yustin was an athlete at Middlebury Union High School. He graduated with honors from Norwich University in 2006 and worked as an EMT with the Bridport Fire Department.

Capt. Yustin served a year in Iraq and had been assigned to Fort Hood in Texas since 2008. According to police, Yustin was driving his motorcycle on Saturday when he crashed into a car. He died at the hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday morning at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Middlebury.
