WHITEFIELD, N.H. (AP) - One of New Hampshire's grand hotels has installed a 121-foot wind turbine to generate up to half of its electricity.
The new turbine is located behind the Mountain View Grand Resort's ballroom, next to the 5th green of the golf course, and is expected to generate 100 kilowatts of energy.
Hotel officials say the turbine can produce power in a breeze as light as 6.6 mph and doesn't make much noise - about as much as a refrigerator 130 feet away. It's part of the resort's larger plan to promote environmental sustainability.
