BARTLETT, N.H. (AP) - Some New Hampshire lawmakers unhappy with a new 9% tax on campers plan to sponsor a bill that would repeal it.
Campgrounds were added to the state's rooms and meals tax in June. The tax, which went into effect July 1, applies to recreational-vehicle and tent-sites.
Many campers protested the tax. Greg Pitman, director of the New Hampshire Campground Owners Association, told the Conway Daily Sun that his association was angered by how hastily the tax was enacted.
Bill co-sponsor Gene Chandler of Bartlett, who voted against the tax, says there was never a public hearing on it. The main sponsor is Rep. Richardson of Lancaster.
