Shelton Convicted in Arizona Shooting

Rutland, Vermont - October 7, 2009

The man wanted in connection with a Rutland homicide has been found guilty of attempted murder in Arizona.

Police say Javon Shelton was in the Grove Street apartment when Carlos Vasquez was shot and killed in February, 2008.

However, officers released Shelton while they focused their investigation on another suspect, Ramel Ramos. The charges against Ramos were eventually dropped.

Now Shelton is facing up to 21 years in jail for the Arizona shooting. He'll be sentenced Nov. 12. However Shelton may never face murder charges in Vermont because authorities may not be able to bring him back to face charges here.
