Gov. Douglas Day in New Hampshire

Whitefield, New Hampshire - October 7, 2009

New Hampshire made history today by honoring Vermont's top official.

Governor John Lynch officially declared October 7th Jim Douglas Day.

Lynch joked about Douglas' ability to keep Killington from succeeding to New Hampshire, as well as the competition between the two states regarding maple syrup production. He also referenced the annual high school shrine football game as an event that brings the two states together.

"He and I have worked together well these part 5 1/2 years. We have often said that the Connecticut River Valley doesn't regard the river as a barrier, rather than a resource that unites the two states. And I am really please to work with him to improve the economy and tourism of our two states and we are going to keep at it," said Lynch.

Lynch says he wanted to honor Douglas because he's good guy, and as far as he knows it's the first time any such proclamation has been made in the country.
