A Vermont Air National Guard F-16 had to jettison two fuel tanks over Lake Champlain Friday morning.
The Guard says the pilot declared an emergency when his F-16 failed to deliver sufficient thrust. The pilot landed safely and no one was hurt.
"The Coast Guard has reported it found one of the fuel pods floating on the surface of Lake Champlain, just in the location about a mile and a half from Willsboro Point, New York. They did express that the water surface was rough and they had some difficulty looking for the other one, although they did report there was no sheen detected, which is a good sign," Lt. Col. Lloyd Goodrow said.
The Guard brought in an environmental firm from Albany, N.Y., and it appears there was no significant fuel spill.
