Rutland City, Vermont - October 19, 2009

An early morning apartment house fire in Rutland has been ruled arson.

It broke out shortly after midnight at the three story building on Cottage Street. Police fought through the flames to wake up five people sleeping inside.

Everyone made it out safely. The fire was so big, neighboring homes were evacuated and hosed down to prevent the flames from spreading.

The apartment house is considered a total loss. Tenants are staying at a nearby motel.
