Opponents organize against wind farm along Lake Ontario

Associated Press - October 20, 2009 3:15 AM ET

HENDERSON, N.Y. (AP) - Opponents of a proposed wind farm in a scenic town along eastern Lake Ontario have organized to fight the giant windmills.

The group includes both seasonal and full-time residents of the town of Henderson. They have become more vocal as the details have become clear regarding the proposed Stony Point Wind Farm backed by United Wind Energy in Mahwah, N.J.

Organizer Deborah Fargo says she doesn't want to see wind farms anywhere. She says they're not profitable without government subsidies and come at a high cost to local communities.

Another member said fishermen won't want to come up from New Jersey to fish in the middle of a wind farm.
