Montpelier, Vermont - October 21, 2009
Vermont's unemployment rate dropped slightly last month.
The rate for September was 6.7 percent. That's one-tenth of a point lower than August.
Around the state, unemployment rates ranged from 4 percent in Hartford to 8.7 percent in Rutland.
State officials say the slight decline in unemployment is the result of seasonal labor changes -- not any improvement in the job market. In fact, the total number of jobs in Vermont dropped by 500 last month.
