Former Police Chief Admits to Gambling Scheme

Bellows Falls, Vermont - October 21, 2009

The former police chief in Bellows Falls will admit to using a village credit card to gamble. Federal prosecutors claim John Dunfree used the card during gambling trips in Connecticut and then tried to have the bills sent to his home. Instead the statements went to the village offices.

It's alleged that Dunfree tried to use $2,300 set aside for new guns on gambling.

The total he spent has not been revealed. But he has to pay the village back.

He will be sentenced for wire fraud in February.
