Ellenburg Man Arrested in Hunting Accident

Potsdam, New York - October 22, 2009

An Ellenburg Depot, N.Y., man hunting for deer is accused of shooting a man in the stomach.

The shooting happened Thursday morning in Potsdam on land leased by Ricky Brunelle, 43, of Ellenburg Depot.

Police say Brunelle thought he was shooting at a deer when he hit Bernard Sharlow, 39, of Norwood, in the abdomen with a .50-caliber slug.

Brunelle is charged with assault.

Sharlow survived surgery and is recovering at the hospital in Potsdam.
